For over a decade the Government has seen to want to throw money at solving problems such as Unemployment, which doesn’t work. I don’t doubt for one second that the New Deal created loads of new jobs and helped people find employment. Sadly though these jobs were mostly for training providers to help deliver the scheme. By the looks of it 2010 could be a bumper year for TV and radio programmes on unemployment. The actor Larry Lamb (Eastenders and Gavin & Stacey) is apparently doing a
New Deal - again
Unemployment has fallen. But there's more evidence of the perceived irrelevance of New Deal, FND etc. Long-term Unemployment has actually risen in some areas, and there has also been a significant rise in some places in those who are "economically inactive", i.e. not working or claiming benefit. On Monday a group called the Centre for Cities published a report looking at the varying fortunes of British cities in the recession. It has copious statistics on

worryingly, after two years unemployment people will be forced onto the Work for Benefits programme. This will involve full time activity in “training options, short term work trials, a remuneration subsidy for employers to take them, or voluntary work in the local community,” (DWP October 2009). With unemployment set to rise to 3 million by October next year, when this policy is enforced, they will have plenty of compelled “volunteers”.Some argue that since JSA is
counted this as time spent unemployed and therefore made him go to TNG too.
So, another day of sitting on my bum getting progressively more world weary as I go. As a commenter has mentioned to me that they would ‘rather stick their hands in a grinder’ than go back to TNG I’m very much afraid I concur. I think, if this were to go on much longer, I would risk poverty and lack of NHS stamps.

ps why the ‘moderation’?????
‘new deal’ is correct in that these schemes are set up to hide the real unemployment numbers- no surprise there
Remploy will deliver the new Specialist Disability Employment Provision programme from October 2010.
“In the 1980s youth unemployment continued to rise for four years after the recession ended. A generation of talent was wasted. We are determined that must never happen again, so we will guarantee a job, training or work experience at six months for 18 to 24 year olds.
“And, because we believe that work is the best way out of poverty we are continuing with radical reform to the welfare system. This means that everyone – be they lone parents, carers or disabled people

was that I saw the waste of unemployment and importance of tackling it as quickly as possible, so we don’t allow a large number of people to become unemployed.”
Maybe Brown should read the exposé of the YMCA open-Prison, Denocra House, Ipswich, on this site, here . There he will find that he allocates large numbers of the unemployed to an enterprise unit in the Ipswich wilds, doing little, being hectored and having their behaviour under tight surveillance. That’s how
during that course I was unemployed, however, I am not a criminal or drug user and never was. This reinforces the following quote from your article.
“In many cases taking over from ’community service’ ordered by the Courts.”
It is true. unemployed people are being treated as a criminal would if caught for an offence.
People may read this article and see it as perhaps a few unemployed people getting together and having a go at the state because they are ungrateful

meant to begin at 12 months unemployment. Stage 3 is a Jobcentre adviser-led stage before that. I'm not quite sure of the timings on the pre-provider stuff over this summer, but for an October start people should already be receiving the 6 month support from advisers. Otherwise there's nothing replacing New Deal right now and nobody will be ready for FND referral in October anyway.

wrongly on benefits become unemployable, depressed and subject to many real health problems.
If we succeed in changing this culture, then we feel our decision to speak out will have been worth it.
• Last night the DWP said: ‘This matter is between Atos and the tribunal, not DWP. Our target is to get a million more people off incapacity benefits by 2015 with tests and back-towork support focused on what people can do, not what they can’t. Last year 31,000 more people
of UK residents claiming unemployment benefit’. The directive is designed to ‘reduce unemployment figures by all possible positive means’ during the current financial climate.
If this is true? and the Government have issued this climb down directive to ‘decision makers’ is this not an admission that they are more than aware and in fact willing accomplices of ATOS Health care, and furthermore, by Working colluding with this despicable organisation ATOS
