John Bradley of Derbyshire Unemployed Workers Centre .
New Labour has gone further than any previous Conservative government in its harshness of policy on Unemployed people. The majority of whom, the system treats as potential fraudsters. No talk of wealth redistribution. The minimum wage coupled with Tax credits has amounted to a huge subsidy to employers.
The TUC must be central in organising the 40 Unemployed centres in an organised fight-back.

About Ipswich Unemployed Action Ipswich Unemployed Action is a group of Unemployed people fighting for the rights of the Unemployed nationally although we specifically focus on the Ipswich area. We were formed in May 2009 after a string of Human Rights violation towards jobseekers specifically from New Deal courses provided by the local New Deal Prime Contractor YMCA Training in addition to Jobcentre Plus. The more research undertaken on the

counted this as time spent unemployed and therefore made him go to TNG too.
So, another day of sitting on my bum getting progressively more world weary as I go. As a commenter has mentioned to me that they would ‘rather stick their hands in a grinder’ than go back to TNG I’m very much afraid I concur. I think, if this were to go on much longer, I would risk poverty and lack of NHS stamps.

Statistically long-term unemployed people (although have looked elsewhere too) have made the mistake by focusing on this system as their primary source – the irony is – it is what probably makes them long term unemployed.
2. Focus on greater mediums (such as the job paper)
So, if you have been searching for jobs apart from them who advertise both in other mediums and the Labour Market System (LMS); it can say a lot about an employer whether they wish to put the money where

to commit to memory is, "The unemployed get too much money", so that we will then go on to substitute "workshy" for "unemployed" and condemn the lot. What's also worrying is that this sort of manipulation pitches one lot of unemployed people against another lot. I'm genuinely unemployed, they say, really looking for work, unlike that lot who are workshy scroungers. Guess who the winners will be in that contest.

placement. But anyone newly unemployed today will not be eligible for FND for a year (or 6 months in some cases). During that time s/he will have access to the growing number of schemes put in place by local councils and partnerships; schemes which don't receive national funding or make a profit for anyone, but which offer most of what FND offers, including relationships with local employers. It follows that anyone who is still unemployed after a year is likely to be among the "hard to

Hi Anonymous,
Is it possible that process-driven delivery is the actual cause of this kind of 'lip service' approach? If you make work experience into a box-ticking exercise then there's little incentive to make it truly useful for anyone. FND will hopefully address this, although somewhat

Maybe Brown should read the exposé of the YMCA open-Prison, Denocra House, Ipswich, on this site, here . There he will find that he allocates large numbers of the unemployed to an enterprise unit in the Ipswich wilds, doing little, being hectored and having their behaviour under tight surveillance. That’s how he can, and indeed does, stop more people becoming workless: for statistical purposes every participant in YMCA

It is true. unemployed people are being treated as a criminal would if caught for an offence.

Why do all unemployed courses do that? At YMCA Training here they also did the stats on how much advertisements cost and if your salary was £18k a year, how much does it cost for the employer? Hello? Do we actually care how much it costs employers? No, its a way of saying you are unemployed because its not worth spending money to find you.So only 5% of jobs are advertised at Jobcentre Plus yet no politicians have raised this concern of how only 1 in 20 jobs appear on

Exactly. As you are unemployed because either you dont have a job or cant work, they think you have all the time in the world to have this form of punishment.

More to the point, they automatically brand every claim as fraudulent untill proved otherwise. It seems the burdon of proof also lies with the claimant as its clear the DWP do not take the word of your own GP over thier own opinion or that
