The way it was explained to me is that once you start FND you have to complete a total of 12 months no matter what. So as I understand it the person in your example would be sent staight back to FND to finish his remaining 8 months of FND after signing on

You do know (subject to provider discretion) that when you are awarded a sanction you have to still sign on and attend Flexible New Deal?
If a provider request your attendance during a sanction if you refuse you will be sanctioned again!

FND works by a lump sum payment paid in a few installments throughout the contract.
It would be rare to get kicked off Flexible New Deal… even if you get a 6 month sanction you are still on FND and still have to attend.
In theory you could get 50 or so sanctions on Flexible New Deal.

Hi, i got a letter today about starting New Deal next week…. i have several friends who have done it and say all you do is sit in a classroom doing nothing all day. i was wondering if there is any way atall of avoiding doing the New Deal course? i was thinking about signing off for 2-3 weeks and then signing back on? would that do

Trouble is with FND: not respecting freedom of expression even though a major human rights violation is relatively a minor thing compared with what is expected on FND – Forced labour etc. so the issue is only going to get worse and I bet there will be no such things as trivial dismissals any more when that happens.

A pocket guide to A4E + FND? It’s full of glossy photo’s of multiracial models smiling fake grins, this isn’t what I saw on a YMCA style course. Why don’t they tell the truth, that you’ll be sat in a damp room and treated like sh*t.

sure many jobseekers on FND who contributed to the Radio 4 programme would have been very disappointed not to have heard their contributions given ‘air’ time. But what can expect from an industry who behave like they are in the Wild West and refused to take part!

YMCA Training have great powers to sanction « Ipswich Unemployed Action.
As I understand it, under FND there is a four week period of mandatory “work related activity”, rather than 12 and until I hear different that’s the only free labour they are getting out of me.

The truth of it is there rarely is a job at the end of it.
We all know when you start a job there is a probationary period allowing the employer to dismiss you on the spot for any (or no)

The Conservative Party has promised to implement changes to Flexible New Deal if they win the General Election.
At the Welfare to Work conference shadow Secretary of State Theresa May said if the second phase Flexible New Deal contracts have not been signed by the time they enter power, they will rewrite the contracts.
